Twiggy Be Colour! is the new, colorful version of Twiggy, the celebrated floor lamp by Foscarini.
Twiggy is a true Foscarini icon: because, like Foscarini, its presence through colour. “We have never tried to limit ourselves to an only black or only white Twiggy. We have never intended to reduce the design to a sign alone, because that sign – that slender arc that bends earthward in an elegant, sophisticated way – spontaneously lends itself to the use of colour, without ever becoming excessive.
This work by Laviani is not just a simple variation of Twiggy, but its actual redesign. The lamp, seen in terms of its constituent parts, takes on an utterly new personality. The curve of the stem emerges like a gesture, the base takes on different weights depending on the contrast, the shade establishes a dialogue with what supports it and the light source it contains. The forms – read in a sequence – become a rhythm.
Saturated and bright colours go perfectly with the lightness of Twiggy. A lamp capable of furnishing an entire space on its own and becomes even more charismatic in this new guise: since one colour means assertion; two colours bring variety; three colours are daring.”
